Her half-brother, Alicent's son Aegon II, feeds her to his dragon, Sunfyre.Īlicent Hightower, aka Queen Alicent, survives the Dance of the Dragons. As many of her children are killed, she flees King's Landing after a riot known as the Storming of the Dragonpit, and is eventually caught. Princess Rhaenyra rules as Queen Rhaenyra for about half a year on the Iron Throne. King Viserys dies at age 52, having reigned over Westeros for 26 years. The fates of all the House of the Dragon characters, according to Fire & Blood It ends with Princess Rhaenyra and Prince Daemon's son Aegon III marrying Alicent's granddaughter, Jaehaera, thus uniting the two feuding branches of the Targaryen house. This leads to an all-out civil war between the Targaryen families, and many (read: almost all) of them dying. Note was taken, and thereafter it became custom to refer to 'greens' and 'blacks' when talking of the queen's party and the party of the princess, respectively."Īround 120 AC (or 'after conquest' in Martin's dating system), he writes, "There was never any doubt that King Viserys still meant for his daughter to follow him upon the Iron Throne, and her sons to follow her in turn." Yet, Martin explains "the bloody seeds of the Dance of the Dragons had been planted" in the animosity between Rhaenyra's sons and Alicent's sons-and between Rhaenyra and Alicent themselves.įlash forward a bit, and when Viserys dies in 129, Aegon is crowned Aegon II, and Rhaenyra isn't told of her father's death. At the opening feast, the queen wore a green gown, whilst the princess dressed dramatically in Targaryen red and black. As Martin writes, "In 111 AC, a great tourney was held at King's Landing on the fifth anniversary of the king's marriage to Queen Alicent. The court then divides itself into those who support Rhaenyra's claim and those who support that of Alicent and her sons. But soon after, he remarries Alicent Hightower, and Alicent gives birth to sons, including Aegon, her eldest child. The main question becomes: Who will succeed Viserys? Will it be his brother, Prince Daemon? His daughter, Princess Rhaenyra? After Viserys's first wife, Aemma, dies, he names Rhaenyra his heir. ( Here's a family tree of all the Targaryens.) But, most relevant for House of the Dragon viewers are the chapters that start with "Heirs of the Dragon," which focus on what happens following the reign of King Jaehaeyrs I Targaryen when King Viserys I takes the throne. I hope they follow Daeron’s storyline and make him a major sympathetic character but there’s no need to do an entire battle just to get him knighted, at most it will be something like Daznak’s pit showing Daeron coming in to save them. The book is a history of the Targaryen family, starting with Aegon the Conqueror. We should see part of the Butchers ball but I doubt it will be more than a couple of scenes showing it, kind of similar to how Stannis beating the wildlings was shown, except here we’ll see the parlay first and then the massacre. I doubt they would ever go through the cost of showing a full battle without a single main character participating, so that likely rules out the Burning Mill, the Fishfeed and the Kingsroad (for the Kingsroad they’ll probably do something similar to the second half of the Blackwater with the winning side arriving at the end calling their victory while someone is being poisoned). The Tumbletons are likely, especially the second, but they might just have Hugh and Ulf White switch sides without showing the battle. I think Rook’s Rest, the Gullet and the storming of the dragonpit are locks to be shown on screen. It won't really be a big climactic battle, but more the backdrop for story events like Aegon's death. Climax of Season 4.ĭragonpit: Absolutely will be here. Tumbleton I/II: I think this definitely happens on screen and is a major centerpiece of an episode, but I could see them combining the two into one battle. Lakeshore/Butcher's Ball: I think this happens onscreen, but remixed a bit so that it is one continuous event, not necessarily a big centerpiece battle episode. The Daeron story arc feels like a Season 4 thing to me, building up to Tumbleton. Honeywine: Might not happen as written, this could be a smaller action scene rather than a major battle. I see this being the climax, probably episode 9, of the third season. Gullet: Absolutely will happen on screen as the centerpiece of an episode. I see this being a story beat either at the climax of Season 2 or a few episodes into Season 3, depending on how much they pad out the events between Viserys' death and Lucerys' death. Rook's Rest: Absolutely will happen on screen as the centerpiece of an episode, though not the whole episode. Burning Mill: Probably happens offscreen, no major characters
